Ambassador Skjønsberg lecturing on Norway and relations with Azerbaijan at Nakhchivan University. Rector Maharramov Saleh Heydar Oglu hosted the embassy delegation at the university.
Embassy representatives visited Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan from 7 to 10 April. Ambassador Skjønsberg and his wife, Ms. Schnitzer-Skjønsberg, took part in the celebration to mark the 90th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The majority of the Baku-based ambassadors participated in this event.
After the celebration, Ambassador Skjønsberg, First Secretary Soldic, and Secretary to the Ambassador Elmira Mirzayeva stayed on for two more days of meetings with the Nakhchivani government, representatives of the local civil society, as well as representatives of local industry and the business sector.
Chairman of the Supreme Council, Vasif Talibov, received the embassy delegation with the courtesy and hospitality which is typical for the region. Chairman Talibov and Ambassador Skjønsberg together reflected upon the relationship between Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan and Norway, and discussed areas where this relationship could be strengthened to the benefit of all parties. In addition to bilateral relations, they touched upon cooperation in multilateral fora such as the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe, where both countries share the same goals and principles.
The embassy delegation also met with representatives of the Nakhchivani departments of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nakhchivani Parliament, as well as the local Customs office. Discussions were sincere and open, allowing the embassy staff to greatly increase their knowledge about Nakhchivan and its economic and social development.
In a morning meeting, the embassy met with representatives of local civil society to hear their views on the development of Nakhchivan.
Rector of Nakhchivan University, Dr. Maharramov Saleh Heydar Oglu, hosted the delegation for meetings on cooperation in the sphere of education. The embassy had the pleasure of meeting students of the Foreign Relations Department of the university. Ambassador Skjønsberg held a lecture on Norway and the relationship between Norway and Azerbaijan.
The embassy visited several factories and industrial centres, among them Badamli Mineral Water Factory and Naz Car Factory. Advanced technology and entrepreneurial spirit was common to all the places visited.

During the stay, the embassy delegation also had the pleasure of visiting many places of interest in this beautiful and intriguing part of Azerbaijan; from breathing the healthy air of the Duzdag (Salt Mountain) salt mines, to drinking handpicked herbal tea by the holy caves and cliffs of Ashabu Kaf.
