\”One day, I took a risk and put my thoughts on paper\”

"One day, I took a risk and put my thoughts on paper"

-Hello. If you\’re ready, can we start without delay?
-Hello. Yes, let\’s begin.
-First of all, l am going to ask you to introduce yourself briefly.
-Actually, l\’m known to most people as a young artist. I am Vugar Mehdiyev. I was born in Nakhchivan city on June 7 in 1988. I started my primary education in school number 12, in 1995. In 2006, after graduating from school l\’ve matriculated to Nakhchivan State University, the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Drawing. I have taken an active part in all exhibitions which were held in university. I was called up to military service in 2010. And l was demobilized in 2011. In 2013 l\’ve been elected as a member to Artists Alliance. I have taken part exhibitions, called \’Art Energy 20\’ and \’Nakhchivan 90\’ thay were held in Baku. And l participated in a drawing festival, called \’Nakhchivan-Cradle of Mankind\’. In 2015, l have become the member of Artists Alliance of Azerbaijan Republic. In the very year, l was awarded with President Scholarship. I\’ve been chosen \”active artist\” in Youth Day, on February 2, 2015. Presently, l\’m occupied with my art in my own workshop in Nakhchivan.
-How did this interest to art occur? How did you realize the presence of your skill?
-l think, this skill is given to creative people in their mothers\’ womb, like God gives a soul, breath to human-being. I was addicted to art for as long as l\’ve known myself. Before l have been busy with piano. For some reason, as l touched the white and black keys of piano, l was picturing the music-l was playing, in my mind. And one day l took a risk and l drew it on paper. And that wasn\’t looking bad on it. As my uncle is an artist, he saw my drawing and said \”This child is gonna be an artist!\”. Unhappily, later l quitted the piano. Though l went far from piano, l didn\’t crossed art out of my life entirely. I tended towards drawing. But l have to mention that, though l quitted playing the piano, l still listen to piano over the course of all my drawing works.
-Then we can call music as your \”source of inspiration\”?
-Sure. Music is very necessary in life.

-And, whom did you take classes from for improving yourself?
-Yep, l\’ve taken classes. My teacher was my uncle Hasan Gurbanov- honoured artist of Azerbaijan Republic.
-Like you said shortly before, your uncle forerealized your ambition to this field. And, how about your parents\’ reception to this prognosis?
-My parents have always been with me at all my decisions. For some time, my mom did want to lead me to chose another profession, but she got that it was in vain. *(smiles)* At present, she regards with pride and love when watching my drawings. She is pride of her son.

-Was your individual exhibition held?
-l was about to held this year, but for my loss in my personal life, l mean for losing my dad, l postponed it.
-May God rest his soul!
-God rest your losses as well. God willing this year, if not when l feel ready, exhibition will be held. Even, you will be invited as well.
-While talking about yourself you\’ve mentioned that, so far you have taken part in many exhibitions and festivals as well. And how about your benefit from this participations?
-Mostly, handiworks of the artists from different cities which l\’ve learned much from them. This is important for an artist. Your or other artists\’ works need to be learned.
-l know that, most artists frequently wander to nature. Especially, for creating new works. Can we generalize this thought to you?
-For me, artist\’s workshop is nature created by God. I use this created workshopat my extra time.
-Which genre do you prefer to draw?
-l feel better in landscape genre. But l copy my compositions and my world ti canvas as well, because artists have their own world.
-Hacar khanim, let me ask you a question. Are you satisfied with my answers?
-As satisfied as l didn\’t expect. *(smiles)*

-Is etude or imagination and fantasy included in your drawing works?
-l notice etude much. But composition as well, almost fifty-fifty.
-ls there your drawing work which you call \”masterpiece\”?
-Noo waayy! I don\’t consider myself to own a masterpiece. I only look for what l do right and false in my drawings. I know the only one who creates masterpieces, that is Allah. He created the Earth, the Sky and all Universe.

-Do you have favourite colour to choose?
-Yes. Light blue.
-What is the difference of this colour from others?
-For me, this colour is unending while looking the Sky. This colour covers everywhere. This is remarkable colour in everywhere.
-What is the main theme that you want to convey to audience?
-l want to show a drawing to audience, not a picture. My landscape works are example to this.
-Are there artists that you admire?
-Certainly, in Azerbaijan Sattar Bahlulzade, and Van Gogh from foreign artists. Both have lived a real artist life.
-Do you have students?
-My student? Nope. But l like to help those who have interest.
-Though you\’ve got drawing edication and you\’re busy with drawing; presently, you operate as a producer. Right?
-Right.
-But which profession is the most favourite for you?
-The profession l chose is producing and the profession l admire is drawing. I love my profession so much.
